The Youth and Children’s Certificates are accepting applications for Memphis gathering
Forma is now in its fifth year of the Certificate Program for Youth Ministry, and we are very excited to be in our 2nd year of the Certificate for Children Ministry. These two programs run parallel to each other, combining classes and discussions, while also separating at appropriate junctures for age-specific ministry training.
The program begins August 1st with online classes and ends December 31st with a one week residential piece at the St. Columba Center in Memphis, TN September 30th – October 5th. These programs are targeted towards both the Christian formation person that is newer to the field and veterans of formation who want to redevelop and re-energize their ministry.
The curriculum includes Instruction in the Book of Common Prayer, Bible, Youth/Children’s Ministry basics and much more. Each student will write a ministry plan in consultation with an experienced faculty mentor for their context that examines their ministry and helps develop a strategy and plan for their particular situation.
We are very excited about our faculty this year. Randall Curtis and Vicki Garvey will be returning for their fifth year with the program and Meredith Brooks, a former student, is returning for her 3rd year as a member of the faculty. Paula Barker will serve as our theology – focused faculty member, and Jamie Martin Currie, Missioner for Christian Formation for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, will be leading our Children and Family Ministry cohort. We also are very honored to have Bronwyn Skov join us from the Episcopal Church’s formation office which endorses our certificates.
The total cost of the program is $1750 and includes all online materials as well as lodging and food at the residential program. The cost also includes a one year membership to Forma and a $100 discount to the upcoming Forma Conference. Many students have found scholarships for the program through their parish, diocese, province and local diocesan ministries such as ECW and Daughters of the King’s groups. Forma also offers limited scholarships for students.
